Post-Operative Rehabilitation
EVIDENCED-BASED CARE, FOR LOCALS LIKE YOU
A structured, progressive rehabilitation program following orthopaedic surgery is essential for achieving the best possible recovery and long-term outcome.
We provide rehabilitation following a wide range of orthopaedic procedures, including ACL and MCL reconstructions, joint replacements, joint reconstructions, and other lower and upper limb surgeries.
Our physiotherapists guide each stage of recovery through thorough assessment and clinical reasoning. While early rehabilitation aligns with your surgeon’s recovery protocol where applicable, progression is tailored using current evidence, objective measures, and our extensive post-operative experience. We liaise closely with your surgeon before and throughout rehabilitation to ensure coordinated care.
Rehabilitation is delivered through a structured, progressive program focused on restoring mobility, strength, and movement control, supporting a safe and confident return to daily activity, work, and sport.
Do I need a referral or clearance to start post-op rehab?
In most cases, no referral is required. You can begin rehabilitation as soon as it is appropriate following surgery.
If you have post-operative instructions or a protocol from your surgeon, we will incorporate this into your rehabilitation plan from your first appointment. Please contact us for further specific information on preparing for post-op treatment.
Should I do rehabilitation before my surgery (prehab)?
Yes - where appropriate, pre-operative rehabilitation can be very beneficial.
Prehab can help improve strength, movement, and confidence before surgery, often leading to smoother recovery and better post-operative outcomes.
When should I start post-operative rehabilitation?
This depends on the type of surgery and your surgeon’s recommendations.
Rehabilitation often begins soon after surgery and progresses in structured stages based on healing, strength, and functional recovery.
